Old Spent Rifle Cartriges

I'm finding all kinds of metal with my MD. I'm saving everything to recycle. I'm up to around 10 old spent rifle cartriges. These are brass but was wondering if anybody has scrapped these before? These are old and bent and beat-up and there is zero chance to be re-loaded. Just wondering before I throw them in with the rest of the brass fixtures I've found!

Theres a LOT of zinc in them. If I remeber right, 30% or so.

Will the scrapyards take them?

Most scrapyards will buy spent ammo cases. You MUST keep them seperate from your other brass. They have to refine spent brass in a different way due to the dangers on a live round getting mixed in. The price may differ a little.

My yard pays brass price but you have to keep them seperate even if they are old and dark.

It ended up being about 4 to 5 pounds. It was added to the other brass brought in. Not much but at a little over $2.00 a pound they are worth holding on to when you find them. Doubt they would give me brass price if I brought in hundreds of pounds. Wonder what rifle ranges do ...

The yard I go to takes them. I haven't heard of needing to seperate them, so I'll have to ask next time.

Whenever I bring scrap in, I toss the guy 2 bucks or so.. Last time I was there I had a nasty old bunch of Metal Detecting scrap. He was very helpful in separating it..

How much did ya' get.....and was it mostly copper/brass or other metal, too?

(I got a bucket to go through still of non-magnetic metal left to sort out!)

Rifle cartridges are the most common thing that I dig up at my house. I have several large tins full of them. I would guess that there are at least 1000 of them in there.
