Guys, never use one of those little safes that a thief can just walk away with. Make sure its massive or bolted down.

Empty, mine weighs over 1,700 lbs. Full, it has to be closer to 3,000.

No such thing as overboard when it comes to the protection of your property of yourself. At 1700 pounds I would guess its not a costco\sam's club special..Its hopefully a real safe, not just a conversation piece. There are quite a few videos around of safe testing around, its pretty scary how easy it is to get into what 95 percent of the population would consider a secure safe.

lol at the guys who think a 3,000 pound safe bolted to the basement floor in 2 feet of concrete in plain view is a good idea. The old saying" don't hide all your eggs in one basket" really comes into play when hoarding pm's.

If I robb your house and see that safe, im instantly gonna:

A. back out of the property if I can go un-noticed and game plan how I can get into that safe.

b. If I alreadly tore up the house, now a confrontation is a must. Now I'm forced to wait till u come home and threaten to shoot your wife or kids, untill u crack the safe all because you went through the effort of trying to protect your valuables in a huge safe. Bigger the safe, bigger the risk if anyone see's it.


The only advantage a big visable safe can provide is a decoy. Leave it cracked open with 5% of your hoard, and hide the rest like smart people

Gold and silver both have low melting points, well below the temperature of a house fire. Both /could/ be salvaged as puddle melts (if you could find the puddles), but they would need to be sent to a refiner to purify, and that costs money. I don't think I'd want the extra expense while finding a new home.
