I was making my penny and dime box run today picking up boxes, and the 1 bank I stopped at to ask for halves had 11 rolls. I'm sure glad I stopped there because when I got home I found out that they were all solid rolls of 1964s. Who rolls up and turns in 220 1964s for $110? Amazing.

Nice score on the '64s, CnC. Congratulations. Makes all that running around almost seem worth the time, doesn't it?

Okay, so I had an interesting conversation yesterday with the vault teller at my former pickup bank, now one of my dump banks.
She mentioned that their "Loomis guy" asked her if the customer ordering coins from them was also ordering coins now from bank X. It seems that my coin orders are large enough to get noticed. Apparently many of the banks in the area recycle the same half dollar coins over and over via the local armored transport companies, so that no matter who i buy from or dump to, I'm likely to see the same profitless batches of coin time and time again. Way to burst my bubble! And I was so looking forward to picking up my coins tomorrow from Bank X. No wonder I got 14 skunks in a row. I may have to come up with a different strategy. Maybe transport my searched coins across state lines?

Hat's off to you CnC. I freely admit that I'm jealous.

Things are slow here in Bamaland. The good news is that I'm avoiding skunks, the bad news is that even though I get a little something in each box lately it's just that - a LITTLE something.

Sure, you're gonna get your fair number of skunks if you're searching halves you've already searched before... but without hitting countless banks for CWR's, then ordering BWR's is the only way you can catch the silver halves as they trickle back into the system. I feel it's a better use of my limited time to just order and search for the relatively low (but reasonably consistent) returns... rather than hoping to find the incredible once in a lifetime scores that some are lucky enough to discover.

My 1st Silver half-dollar finds!!!!! :D

Went on lunch hour to a bank I get a few halves from time to time - never saw silver before.

I knew I was on to something when the lady said "if you go to the main lobby next door they have lots". "Lots!" Oh yeah!

I was unprepared but had $20 with me. Got 40 and as I walked back to work, I sorted them and I spied a 1967. Bingo! I happened to have extra cash with me and went back 90 minutes later. Out of $121 worth of loose halves, I got 2-64's and 8-40%'ers. Not bad!

I'll have to visit them more often.

To be honest, it felt a little like "stealing" or "cheating" - the clerks seemed to have no idea about the bag of halves real contents.

I can see why you all do this - it is exciting when you find silver! And the misses was impressed also! :)

Good luck everyone
