Sorry to double post. I have a question about this though?

I've gotten all my new boxes from a single bank it seems. I can't tell if that in itself is something to pay attention to or not.

I was wondering, those of you who do this a lot and use new pennies, do you find that the new boxes show up around a certain time of the year? Is there some pattern to when you will get more of them?

It is based on portal supply and nothing else.

I haven't had a new box in over a year, but they used to go for 1.5 on feebay, not a bad return.

eBay those bad boys. 1.5-2.0X and no sorting, what's not to like? I just started getting 2011 in my change in the last month. (Finally got a 2011D yesterday).

Spoke too soon. Picked up three boxes this morning. One was all 2011D. Ebay those shiny little turds.

I am ebaying them. It's not that I don't make money, it's that I picked up all 38 boxes and I was really excited because my Ryedale came the day before and now there's nothing to sort. It's a bit depressing. I do this because it's fun not because I need to make $5 profit on a box of pennies (after they charge have of it in fees)

The first box sold for $47.25. After fees and shipping it was like 31 or something. I started selling them in rolls because I dont' waste as much on shipping that way. Is there any other better way?

If you got a bunch of boxes, I'd try selling them in $50 lots. You can easily fit two boxes into one Med. Flat rate box. Cut your shipping in half.

Perhaps the mint is trying to get rid of all their zinc stock before they eliminate the penny???

Not if they're 2011s that they just minted. Why would they ever mint them if they thought they were going to get rid of them?

Although I for one seriously doubt the penny will be discontinued, but rather changed to steel or something else more worthless....

Not how the portal delivery system works. I'm trying to think the what the likelihood of this situation arising and how it happened.

It was two different branches of the same bank, about 20 miles from each other. the deliveries were made over the course of a week.

If the branches have the same order dates it wouldn't matter. Not a question you'd want to ask them :)

Do you know if they do their deliveries through a third party or if they do them themselves?

I get more new boxes from Bank of America than any other bank. Other banks I use are regionals like BB&T.

I know the orders were on different dates. They each told me what day they were ordering each time. it was 3 different shipments total.

I don't know as to whether they do it through a third party or not. That might account for it, if it's all really coming from the same pool.

Well the issue isn't when the branches do their ordering, but rather when the "other party" does their ordering in reference to the branches ordering. Whether they handle cash inhouse or use a third party makes a huge difference.

I didn't mean the freshly minted pennies, I was referring to their inventory of raw materials.

The Japanese use 100% aluminum for their one yen coin (worth about 1.2 cents FV at today's exchange rate). Al is about 1/4th the cost of Cu.
