Where can I sell computer power supplies and other "power bo

Postby ilyaz » Wed Jun 15, 2011 10:14 am

I have a bunch of computer power supplies and other "power boards" that I want to get rid of. The interstate buyer who gets my MBs, RAM etc buys them too but pays way too little to even cover shipping. None of the local yards I called (I am in MD near DC) buys them. I can of course remove all the heat sinks, transformers and copper coils from them but I don't want to spend time on this. At most I can remove the steel housing but the rest I prefer to keep intact and spend time on more valuable stuff. What else can I do with them?

Thanks!

These ones are not because I cut off the wires, but I usually get them intact. Why?

Sell for parts?

The ones I've taken apart, I usually unsolder the leads from the board, or clip them at the solder. I was collecting the toroids for some reason, can't recall what at the moment.

Standard ATX power supplies are more valuable if you leave the wire attached. They're harder to sell if you've clipped the wires, as this makes them worthless as parts and much less valuable as scrap.

As scrap, you're right - they're not cost effective to ship.

Once the wires are clipped off, their return is lower than electric motors. You should still be able to find a yard that buys them as light iron/shred scrap.

Our local yard will pay .32 cents a pound for the power supplies if the pigtails are left attached. We throw all of our big power supplies from the mainframes right in with them.

I currently pay $0.30/lb for them with the wires attached - and that's when I drive out to local businesses and buy on location. You are outside of my area though.

So shop around - there are buyers for them.
