If you scrap small items, and you have taken the time to dissassemble the various parts please posts your findings here. I just came across our old blender so here it goes: (I used average price, please correct me if I made a mistake)


Household blender (from the 90s)
Time to dissassemble: 6 min
Small electrical coils : 30.25 oz @ $0,30 per lbs = $0,56
Steel : 5,25 oz @ $0,10 per lbs = $0,03
Unstripped copper wire: 2,5 oz @ $1,00 per lbs = $0,16

Total = $0,75 for the blender

Household 18'' fan (on a stand)
Time to dissassemble: 15 min
Small electrical motor : 42.4 oz @ $0,30 per lbs = $0,80
Steel : 108,2 oz @ $0,10 per lbs = $0,67
Unstripped copper wire: 4,2 oz @ $1,00 per lbs = $0,26

Total = $1,73 for the fan

Electric adapter (disassembled) : 6,6 oz @ $0,30 per lbs = $0,12
Steel : 2,15 oz @ $0,10 per lbs = $0,01
Unstripped copper wire: 1,5 oz @ $1,00 per lbs = $0,09

Total = $0,22 for the phone

Do you use any specific tools, or just your standard screwdriver and pliers that people have around the house?

I simply use : Box set, screwdriver, utility knife and a pair of pliers.

Electric motor and assembly : 8,75 lbs @ $0,30 per lbs = $2,63
Steel : 15,25 lbs @ $0,10 per lbs = $1,52
Unstripped copper wire: 4,5 oz @ $1,00 per lbs = $0,28

Total = $4,43 for the lawnmower

After accumulating for almost 6 months, I managed to go to the yard and got $44.05 which I immediatly turned into a 1oz silver maple leaf ($40,86).
