State Your Silver Finds

Postby beauanderos » Sun Jul 03, 2011 2:19 pm

I kind of doubt that the two commemoratives I've found while searching, a 1923 Monroe Doctrine and a 1926 California commemorative, had been in circulation until I discovered them (though both were darkly toned). Yet the coincidence of living in California myself... and finding those two specific California commems (and none others so far) has made me wonder. How many forum members do we have who have been lucky enough to find old commemorative silver halves? And were they native to your own region? It seems more probable, that if these coins did enter circulation recently or years back, that they might show a tendency to remain in the same region, rather than travel. Are other members experiencing anything similar?

a few months ago I posted a commem. find. 1 proof and 1 ms 1986 in the same roll. Also had about 7 or so 87's BU but it was definitely a result of someone taking G pa's hoard to the bank. all the coins were in very pristine condition. I am finding more proof halves as well in circulation at the banks. times are tough and some people are not aware and desperate!

The only old commemorative I found was a 1893 Columbia Exposition half dollar; I know a pretty common date coin so probably just worth the silver value; not as cool as your 2 finds :-)

I did find a mirror like proof Franklin which was another awesome find.

Box of quarters tomorrow. We shall see. Check right here for a report.

Skunk box for the quarters. Not even an extra leaf in Wisconsin. Cent box was about 18% copper. Have not checked for wheats. Did find 1966 1/2 franc, France; 1990 1 cent, Bahamas: 2001 1 Jiao, China. Next week: 2 boxes halves, 3 dimes, 1 nickel, 6 cents. Here is for a little silver and maybe an error.

You know... we're supposed to keep three to six month cash for a emergency. What better use for that sitting money than to fund our searchs with? ;)

Scored a $20 roll of '64 Kennedys today. All appear uncirc, although the exposed coins are a little rough.
