scraping a riding mower

I have two riding mowers to scrap, is there anything worth taking off of them to scrap seperate or just take the whole tractor in? I thought about pulling all the wires off and stripping them for the copper

I scrapped one once and just took the whole thing in without removing anything. Got $50.00 for it.

You can check for aluminum. But the only things you will likely find will have steel bearings, sleeves and valves that make it too time consuming to worry about breaking it down. Like you said, cut the wiring out and put it in your insulated bucket. Pull the battery, you can get more for that. The electric starter will bring a little more.

check craigs list. Always guys on there wanting old riders to rebuild.

Thanks for the info, they are not old enough to be worth rebuilding. one is a 90's craftsman that the rear went out of and the other is like a kmart brand. I will pull the wires and scrap the rest

Riding mowers sometimes get sold cheap or thrown away when all they need is a new spark plug, or something similar.

Some people fix them and sell as used/running. These people might also want other old mowers for parts.

So, the mowers don't have to be old to be worth fixing up.

In the future, you should pull the battery out, and pull as much of the wire harness out as possible. Also, sometimes the riding mowers have cast aluminum decks, etc.
