Modern dimes that look silver when edge sorting

I found a 1975 dime that does not have the regular copper band around the edge.

Edge sorting you would think it was silver but it isn't of course.

What causes that to happen?

I find that some coins oxidize faster than others, making the rims look a bit different. If you truly have a modern dime that is not a clad coin, you may have a significant error. Take it to a good coin dealer and have them take a look.

I just read that some 1975-S silver proof were made with out the "S" see-- http://rooseveltdimes.net/1968-1970-1975-1983-no-s-proof-roosevelt-dimes/
From that
The 1975 “No S” Proof Roosevelt Dime emerged as the rarest of this error type. An extremely small number of proof coins missing the mint mark were released. The coins were so rare that they were not discovered until 1978 when two examples surfaced. These coins are now considered one of the major rarities of the 20th century with an estimated 2 to 5 pieces known. No examples have been graded by either PCGS or NGC.
