Iranian Silver? - Nope...

Iranian Silver? - Nope...

Postby JTM3 » Sat Aug 06, 2011 4:18 pm

Anyone know much about Iranian coins? At my work, we got in 5 Iranian coins, and they sound like they're silver. One of them is fairly small, about the size of a dime with a marking that looks like a "1" on it, two that are maybe slightly larger than quarters, maybe, with "upside-down hearts" on them  , and 1 slightly smaller than a half-dollar and one about the same size a s a half dollar with the bust of the Shah :?: on them. I can't find much online about them.

Thanks for the help!

Pictures?
If I have the gift of prophesy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to move mountains but do not have love I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned but do not have love it profits me nothing.

Someone else here once posted this link to a site that has info on silver content for coins of the world. I didn't see Iran among the countries listed. Maybe they didn't mint silver coins in Iran.

Oh, please share! I believe what I have are 1 and 5 Rial (?) coins, and I can't figure out what the two largest ones are.

Oh, thanks justoneguy. According to that site, there is a slight possibility that the 1 Rial coin is .600 fine and the 5 Rial coins might be .828 or .600 fine, of course they may just be cupro-nickel like the 2 larger ones.

Are they dated? I vaguely remember pre 1953 as the silver cut off for Iran, the one could be a 1 Rial

Yeah, it seems like 1952 was the cutoff for silver. Here is a picture of the one I found.

Also found this while looking up the dates which might be helpful.
