I read that article and think it is SAD they refer to "coining" their own money as running a printing press. It is NOT the same thing!

There are several communities that have done this for years.

I think it's a great Idea, it could be used as a medium of exchange outside of taxes. I think it could revitalize a lot of these types of communities. The problem is the government gets involved and the leach gets put back on.

In the chaos that followed World War I, individual cities and businesses in France and Germany issued their own coinage, with the official backing of the state, that was accepted anywhere it was trusted. This only happened for a few years, and ended when the national currency was stabilized and resumed production.
