Got some Silver Eagles, What did I buy?

Postby Hades12 » Fri Aug 12, 2011 5:05 pm

My silver guy called with 23 Eagles, 3 are loose, but the rest are in cases, the long cases are 3 2003 and 1 2004 and the box is a 2011 Proof.

What kind of value do these have?

silver is currently $39.07. For a while, APMEX was buying SAE's at $3 over spot

I agree with the $2.50-3.00 over spot for the buying price. Whenever I do buy, though, the cases, slabs, holders, packaging, and other gimmicky stuff is irrelevant. Same price for all and stand your ground. I've been able to get about halfway toward a complete year set of ASEs in NGC or PCGS slabs by doing this.

The proof is worth a fair amount (relatively) more than the regular issue, hit up ebay for some ideas of what it goes for. Whenever I get an Eagle in a Littleton container, or other coin company container, I pop it out and slap it in an airtight. To me, the packaging is just clutter.

Ditto. I would keep the proof in it's original case/box, but personally I would get some airtight holders and pop them out of the slabs they are currently in.

One is in a NGC case, does that do anything for it?

Only if it's graded MS70 will it command a good size premium. Alright so.... did you get a good deal?

depends who you are selling it to. Some folks will pay more for it. For me... they are great coins but I cant really understand any numismatic value to something so common. Many agree with me.

Keep the NGC slab as well. Throw it on ebay. Many people love slabbed bullion for what ever reason.

I knew the guy already but a bit back I bought a pile he had that he was upside down in at better then spot. So now he calls when he wants to move silver Quickly, The ASE's he had gotten an hour before. Last deal was Morgans at 23.50 each. Hard part is I need to have about 1k ready to go when he calls.
