Need help with Shipping

So I tried to ship something to Nickelmeister today. It's a rather large package. When I filled out the form the lady told me I can't ship any kind of precious metals to Canada (I'm new to this)

What do I do? It's a rather large amount, and I was trying to insure it. Would I be better off just shipping it in smaller boxes so it's less conspicuous, like split up the shipment? I had wanted insurance for it, but that seems to be out of the question.

Anybody worked around this kind of problem before?

You can ship precious metals to Canada, but you can't insure them. Priority Small Flat Rate Box can weigh up to 4 pounds, Medium up to 20 pounds. Technically coins are prohibited in Express Mail International, but I have never run into a problem with that.

I had a huge problem shipping coins to Canada a few months back. I don't mean to scare you, but after I was done, I told myself I would never, ever ship anything to our friends up north again.

What I ended up doing was putting all of the coins in a large Flat Rate box. If you feel the need to insure it, cite "antiques" or "old collectibles." Also, and someone more knowledgeable than me should comment on this, when I marked the package as "gift," my recipient still had to pay X amount of a custom fee because I didn't send a gift card along with it. I don't remember the exact terms, like I said, someone smarter needs to chime in.

What I would not recommend is telling anyone what's in the box (What's in the box!?). Stretch the truth.

I've shipped a few times to canadians on this forum and put 'old coins' with an accurate delcared value on the customs form.

I don't know if my reciepients had to pay tax or not. But everyone got their packages in a timely manner and did not report any problem.

I typically mark shipments as "metal parts" with accurate values unless the customer specifically requests it be marked "999 silver (or gold) bullion" for tax purposes. I believe 999 bullion is exempt from tax in Canada (must be marked as such on customs), but don't quote me on that...

I was trying to ensure it because it's a good amount. It's about 3 pounds, and I'm using a small flat rate. So I should probably just go with confirmation delivery and pray a little?

For pennies many people on Realcent call them copper disks on their shipments. You could call your item metal disks.

I think it might help if you refer to the coins as "collectibles".

As an alternative, you might ask JadeDragon in he would act as an intermediary and ship to him. I think he has residences on both sides of the border Wash/Canada.
