Ten rolls, all copper!

Postby tinhorn » Fri Sep 02, 2011 9:12 pm

I've read about rich veins but never experienced one before. (Kinda like Indian Heads in the wild--never found one myself despite having sorted 872,000 pennies.) But after having frittered away the summer spending my money on odd little boats instead of boxes of pennies (see avatar) I was at a bank-in-a-supermarket that in the past has ordered as much as $450 worth of pennies for me. I said Hi to re-establish our connection, then asked about their penny stockpile. The teller said she had $20 worth of CWRs, so I bought 'em.

Was cooling my heels later in the evening waiting for a craigslist respondent, so I started hand-sorting some of the older-appearing rolls. The first ten rolls were ALL between '59 and '81 except for one wheat, and included four Canadians.

Roll #11 produced a lot of zinc, but I can't wait to get into the roll marked "Mixed Canadians".

CWR is where you're going to get the big hits.

One of my tellers called me Tuesday for a $17.50 lot that was "Grandma's hoard of pennies". I pulled 94% copper, newest was 1986, and two copper Canadians. The only wheat was a steelie that was so rusted it looked like copper.

I did get 9 rolls of wheats last December on a CWR run! Built a contest around that find. http://realcent.org/viewtopic.php?f=22&t=2484

Nice pick up. Can't say enough about those contacts at the banks. They make all the difference.

I misread the handwriting. It said "Mixed INDIANS". Three other rolls are labeled "Indian". What fun! Also found a coin labeled "Treasury United States Mint" with a giant P and "Uncirculated" on the back. Anyone know what that's about?
