For those of you who sell your coppers.

Do you sell them by face value, or by weight? I've seen them sell as both, and I'm wondering which is an easier/cheaper way to get a count on my coppers.

I'd like to put $25 face into bags that way it's easy to keep track of what I have and then easier to sell in the end if need be, but I don't know if I want to drop the coin on a coin counter when I could do it just by weight.

What do the experts say?

I think you can package them or sell them any way you want... but you should always do it in round lots.. $25, 25 lbs, $10, 10 lbs.. definitely not $10.63

Also, you can probably make more money selling smaller lots, and they are a lot easier to ship!

Anything divisible into $100 or 100 lbs should serve you well.

I sell in ten-pound lots ( http://www.copperbaron.biz ), but in the past I've sold 25 and 40-pound lots, too. If you decide to sell in larger quantities (40, 50, or 60-pound units) 20 or 25 pounds fit great into a USPS Tyvek bag.

I sell them however the potential customer want to buy them. If by weight I have a scale accure to 2 hundredths of a pound. If I have drop them on a counter I have a pair of them sitting side by side that will each do 4,000 coins a minute. If they want them machine rolled, I run them through the automatic coin rolling machines. The most important things when selling are that the measurement is accurate, the copper uncontaminated by zinc, and the shipping safe and secure.

a lot of people do $100 FV beause its roughly the max amount that will fit in a flat rate box and be within the 70lb weight limit.

Hi, stupid question roughly how much is in 10lbs? Also, I'm fairly new to penny sorting so far im accumulated a couple coffee cans full of copper cents. Im wondering now what the best way to store these would be? Im thinking in bags of $25 face or maybe 5-10lbs. Do you use zip lock bags? double bag? Also, can anyone recommend a fairly inexpensive scale/counter? Thanks

I believe 147 copper pennies per pound is the average. I wouldn't waste the money on zip lock bags if they're just for yourself when you can get the Priority Mail Tyvek mailers for free. They're tough as nails.

I'm interested in the scale/counter as well, I'm sure someone will be along shortly to give a recommendation.

thanks for the advice on the priority mail envelops. Did a google search and was able to order them from usps website for no cost at all awesome.

If you package them in poly whatever dont forget the dessicant packs to suck up the moisture....

where do you normally buy these dissicant/silica packs?

I purchased some a while back on ebay. They were rechargeable where I can bake them in the oven for a few hours if they become too moisture laden. They were pretty large, I don't know they have small rechargeable type ones.

I would get Cs-10 coin counter it does 1800 dimes per minute.

I normally sell $90 FV boxes. Six Small FRBs of $15 FV inside one Medium FRB. I do this because the small boxes act as reinforcement for the medium. This reduces the maximum number of coins I can ship but lessens the likelihood of severe damage by the PO. It is the best way I have tried that survives a six foot drop test without complete failure of the packaging.

In addition to a Ryedale for sorting, I have a 30's era hand powered coin counter. It has manual settings for cent through half. Works like a champ and is very accurate. If I have someone feed the hopper I can crank out 10,000 cents in just a few minutes.

coin counter any good unit will do as long as it works...ebay a good place to buy counters...Scan coin, Brandt(out of biz) but is an industrial type machine..even the hand cranks are good...they are usually cheap but heavy so high cost in frt. Look for local pickup. If you start off with quality it pays off in the long run. PM moneyman he may have one lying around.
