Wheat Drought is over...for now!

Postby TheJonasCollegeFund » Fri Sep 16, 2011 10:19 am

Stopped at my regular bank for my bag pickup. The last 3 bags from here had great copper numbers but little action in wheats. Well, this bag's first handfull had more wheats than those last 3 bags combined. And, in that handfull, a nice 1906 indian head was hanging out in the wheats!

Going to go through part of the bag today. Will update a possible dream bag....at least for me. :D

Scanned through a bit and found another indian head and roughly 400+/- wheats  . Mostly commons but a few pre-1940's are there.

Looks like GREAT copper numbers, too! :D

Cool. When you luck out on a batch it does have a way of re-energizing you, doesn't it? 8-)
From hence ye beauties undeceived, know one false step is ne'er retrieved
and be with caution bold.
Not all that tempts your wandering eyes and heedless hearts is lawful prize,
nor all that glistens gold.

Outstanding count with the wheats and even better with 2 for the tribe.

OK...finished the bag....now I wonder what I missed in dimes, quarters, and halves. Somebody cashed in some old coins. But Brinks made a pick-up the morning I got the bag off of the machine. I had enough change on me to finish off the bag. They won't sell any partial bags.

Anyway...the bag had 671 wheats in it. Most were 1940's and 1950's. It did contain 36 pre-1940 wheats. And, it had only 2 Indian Head Cents there! A 1906 and a 1888. The oldest wheat was a 1915.

Here's a shot...the stacks are from left to right...at the top of the picture...teens (10), twenties(9), and thirties (17). Next are the 2 indian heads then 10 canadian coppers with the best being a 1951 George VI.

671 WHEATS!!!!! :D

Just thinking about the silver I might have missed. But on the other hand, these ladies at the bank buy ALL of the silver they find! They even order a box of halfs every 3 or 4 weeks and then go through the rolls when it's not busy. I was told they have lots of regular customers that ask for halves. But these are older customers that ARE NOT silver hunting. She told me they like to give them out as gifts and as tips at restaurants. She stopped me dead in my tracks on day one when I asked about buying bags off of the machine. So, this is a penny only stop. But they have a few new faces working....so....some silver may be making it's way into the bags!

I've found several wheats that made their way all the way up to Canada - and I'm only on my 77th roll of 10,000.
I did it. I've been crazy enough to sort through 10,000 rolls of pennies. Almost makes you think, "some people will do anything to build up a coin collection."
