US Steel Cents

For tracking those harder to find US steel pennies. Not for tracking those oh so plentiful Canadian steel pennies.

I will trade my US 1943 Steel cents one for one for the
plentiful Canadian steel pennies
if they are these years--

Penny Arcade magnet last night - 3 P mints and one S mint

I have almost a full roll now of steelies that have come off of the penny arcade magnet so far this year. None remarkable, most are quite worn and dirty.

I've hand sorted 275 boxes that I've kept track.

I haven't found ANY US 1943 STEELIES AT ALL! :(

Last week's wheat hoard from the bank bag had "3" steel cents. 1943x2 and a 1943S. All three a bit rusty.

My wife found one the other day. Co-worker of hers asked why this wheat cent looked "different". A slightly worn and blackish-silver 1943 D. Wife later gave her a nickel for it.

1st steel cent we have ever found in the wild!

2nd "1st find" in a week for the household! Other one was a Buffalo in a $100 bag of nickels! Great week! :D

I've found about a dozen this year (1 last week), but most were so bad I threw them back.

Had my claws into a nice one the other day at the Arcade magnet. But it was at a branch I hardly ever go to; the manager came over and asked suspiciously if I needed help :D  I said I was sure I'd deposited a Canadian quarter, but the tally slip didn't show any quarters. That was just enough of a quick lie to keep me from getting booted from the bank - but when "we" finished scraping the magnet all's I got out of it was a lousy quarter. She walked away with a handful, and there were at least 4 loonies in addition to a nice steelie.

Can't scam 'em all the time!

Found my first steel penny last night in a batch of CWRs. It's in bad shape and the date is unreadable but it sticks to the magnet quite well. BTW, this is the third coin this week that my magnet liked. There was a 25c coin from the Domincan Republic that I found in the CoinStar machine on Sunday. Then today some Canadian quarters arrived in the mail that I got on eBay that were supposed to be silver - one was a 1968 made of .999 nickel. :x

I found my first two just a few days apart about a month ago
