Sweet Ebay deal- beginner's luck

Postby creshka46 » Tue Oct 04, 2011 8:27 pm

Today I did my first go at buying silver on ebay.

I just won the bid for a mostly full kennedy half dollar book, it contained:

(2) 1964
(8) 1965-1969
(25) 1971-1989

All this for $53 + $4 shipping!!!!!!
I couldn't believe my luck. :D
The only explaination that I can come up with is that everyone else bidding forgot about the $12.5 in clad value. Earlier today I bought 21 40% halves from the same seller for $87.11 shipped and I thought that was a decent deal!

Here's the link, not sure if it will work or not since it's closed now:

Anyone want to double check me confirm that I really did just get a good deal? :?

Apply the $12.50 towards the purchase price. You purchase the 40%/90% Kennedy halves for $44.50. Spot value at $56.88. As of today, that is a profit of $12.33. I wish I saw this auction. A nice first win on eBay. Congratulations!

That is a nice snag!! Its impossible to find junk silver below spot on eBay. Its hard to find junk lots for 25x, when melt is 21x. You did very well. I equate this to finding silver in the wild ... on eBay of all places!! Good eye, very good eye.

Good score there. I have had luck in the past with auctions like this. I guess when the 90% and 40% silver halves are mixed with a bunch of clad ones it scares away a lot of bidders. Today I picked up an auction on eBay for a mixed lot of 90% and 40% silver halves for a total of $58 shipped (1 - Walking Liberty, 2 - 90% Kennedy, 6 - 40% Kennedy). That comes to around $29 and change per ounce. I thought that was a good score but you did WAY better.
