I am in the scrap metal business on the west coast

Postby mtldealer » Sun Nov 06, 2011 7:38 am

I have been in the scrap business my entire life, primarily aluminum and nickel based alloy's... Third generation. I got into the coin thing as a hobby. If anyone has any questions on scrap metals, values, terms or information - please feel free to pm me and I'll help whatever way i can. I have had such a positive experience here on real cent that if I can help anyone out it would be my pleasure. I also have a nit on x Ray gun that we use to test metals for their composition, I use it to test coins and other bullion from time to time. If your locates on the west coast and are interested in having something tested let me know and we can figure out a way to make it happen. Everyone have a good week.

Any value in ballasts from light fixtures?

There's at least three different types of ballasts. One type is from parking lot lights and they look like transformers, so I'd assume these have some value. Another type is black and filled with oil. These are older style ballasts out of common fluorescent fixtures. I assume these are hazardous waste. There's a newer style of these also. They're called electronic ballasts and have no oil.

Thanks.

How do you like the Niton?

I am looking at buying one exclusively for precious metals.

Any comments would be appreciated, good and bad.
