A&M The Good, Bad, and Ugly News

Postby Kurr » Thu Nov 10, 2011 10:31 am

Ok, sometimes I punch A&M Fine Metals into ebay or search engines to see what pops up. I found some interesting things today.

First , the Good News:

I am currently in the process of ordering tooling to expand the line finaly. New dies, new press... new.... stuff! Hooray!

And I punched A&M Fine Metals into Ebay, and wow! On completed sales the lowest sold was $3.95 and the high sale price was $13.00 for one bar! This is the only place I sell, so I am glad to see everyone here doing so well.

Also people know how proud I am of my product and often will let me know where they have been sent. To date I believe I have A&M bars in 7 countries! USA, Canada, France, England, Portugal, Germany, and due to a google search today New Zealand! Hooray!

The bad news is I am going to hold off on the gold a bit longer, to build my funds. I know the volitility is higher in the Ag market, but I think thatdue to fundamentals Ag is where the biggest move up is to be made. If I am going to put something in your hand, I want it to be the biggest possible gain for you. My heart is in Ag, I think there are more uses for it, so if I have to make a choice, thats where the chips will fall.
Thats all the bad news.

Now for the Ugly:

In today's google search I turned up a new company I had not seen the last time selling my product. Naturally I have to look. They are located in New Zealand (yay thats the new country) and are asking 4.75 NZ for them. but something looked VERY familiar to me. So a quick click in the favorites folder showed me I was right. Something WAS amiss.

Their picture. They STOLE our good friend Nate's work. That's HIS picture, and they photoshopped out his Copper Cave Logo. Nate if thats you selling on a NZ site, my appologies, but I can't just letit slide without saying something to alert everyone.

http://consumersave.co.nz/product.php?p ... t=0&page=1

That concludes the News from A&M Fine Metals.

Thanks again,
Steve :D

When I was thinking about selling some of my A&M bars,
My first thought was to use your pic from here.
it's a great shot of them.
then i thought "that's not right", that's stealing from a friend.
then I decided to just keep 'em.
they are as cool to me as any reverse proof eagle. ;)

That's not me selling in NZ, but I do know who that is, and he buys the bars from me. Although he never asked permission to use my photos, he has sent me one or two of his to use, so I let it slide. He's a frequent customer and resells over there.

When I see one of my photos pop up on eBay, that's a different story. I'm part of the Vero program, so if somebody copies my photo or description, I get to zap the listing and they get a wrist-slapping email from eBay ;)

I sell one or two each week on e-bay for fun and have been generously rewarded. I just sent 2 to Portugal this week and got more than 10 bucks each for them. Glad I got a gold one from you when they were available. I should have bought more!

Hmmm. Goes to show you how slow I can be! By post inference I was aware that you (Kurr) were into something that seemed to involve bars, but hadn't smoked out what it was, and I was too lazy or with no time at the moments of curiousity to dig (a link in your sig would be nice!). Had no idea that A&M bars, which I recognize, were from you. Well done! Is there no website?

There is no website at the moment. This is really the only place I sell.

I started this to learn the business, build an inheritance for my twins, and have a means of production/skill set to hand them when they are old enough. Along the way I would like to aquire land to grow on to help feed the hungry in my local areas.

The A&M are my twins names. Amaris is my little girl and Malachi is my little boy. I only sell here, cause I learned and got started here.

The sorting of copper cents is how I bootstrapped this. I started with a single $25 box, handsorting, then went to digital scale, then to a Ryedale coin artist.

Now I cast the ingots, roll my stock, recycle my scraps, everything. Eventually we will have 1, 5, 10, and 20 gram bars in both silver and gold, and if I can strike them, perhaps platinum. As soon as I can get the model and molds done, I hope to pursue the .999 "nest eggs".

Once I can get a spot to build and setup a proper furnace I will resume the aluminum and copper bars in larger sizes. I did some 4ozs copper and up to an 8lb aluminum to date with most of the aluminum being 2 or 5 lbs generic recycle/stacker bars.

I would love to get some of your 1g bars! I missed out on your last auction :/, Out of curiosity where do you get your tools to punch? I'm taking welding classes and debating buying an ocy-acetylene torch to play around with and make my own coins/bars.

I actually have very little use for my oxy/acet rig in this area. It is faaaar too costly to run for this. It cost me about $28 in gas to melt about $8 worth of copper.

I have my tooling custom made from a shop in Rhode Island. I'll be listing my last 50 1g bars soon, maybe not all at the same time, maybe as bonuses to other items.

You may want to check on the availability of acetylene before buying one. The local guy that does my welding told me when his tank is empty he is done because he can't get any more. The shop he works at converted all of their stuff over to propolene.

I know theirs plenty of it in my town, quite a few welding supply shops. Gas truck comes by twice a week to my school too for co2/o2/argon and acetylene. I'll make sure to double check before i buy a rig. The downside is the gas is fairly expensive.

Hi Steve, what a great legacy you have made for your kids! I think that is cool that they will forever see the A&M in bars of silver.. I imagine in 50 years (or 70) when one of your kids (or grandkids) sees an A&M bar in a store for sale it will bring fond memories of dad (or Granddad)..
I have one gold and 50 or so silvers.. cant wait for the larger sizes :D Diggin

Keep up the good work - I'm eager to get some more 1 oz bars. Everybody I show them to thinks they are great, but I won't sell them any. :) Maybe next time I get some. Looking forward to the "nest eggs!"

I'd definitely buy a couple of nest eggs. Any idea how many ounces they'll be? Do you plan on making them in silver and gold?

When I called airgas back early spring they would not take on any new Acetylene contracts. I changed my cutting torch over to propane and have used it just as well, but all I do it Cut.

Nate. slightly off topic, but i just went to look at THE CAVE for the first time, and i got to tell you, NICE SITE!!...got my lil brain working overtime, and i love the mix of metals, especially to see Rodee's and Market Harmony's products there. to tell the truth, i'd be afraid to buy some Rodee bars, or Harmony Triangles, coz i'd never want to trade them. they're works of art. Works of art illicit passion in me, and when you trade, either physicals or futures, you have to be DISpassionate.
Anyway, just wanted to tell you, great website, that i just "favorited" in my browsers "Metals" folder, respectfully, neil

Also Nate, your site is really cool. It's fun to see things made out of crazy/uncommon metals!
