I just did some research on the Population reports on PCGS and found that I now own a top pop Morgan. Tied as one of the finest 1880-0 DMPL ever graded by PCGS.

MS-64dmpl (39 coins)
MS-65dmpl (0 coins)

That is just AWESOME, Doc. Congrats on the great find and I'll try to let my jealousy subside overnight. But, if you want to donate that 80-O 64DMPL to the 13, I'll give you the coin I trade out

That is terrific news on the submission Rodebaugh.

However: You are probably giving people the impression that sending in coins for grading MAKES MONEY :) Very few have the terrific eye for coins you have and most lose money on the grading proposition, especially on a crack out! :)

How bout a picture?!
If I have the gift of prophesy, and know all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to move mountains but do not have love I am nothing. And if I give all my possessions to feed the poor, and if I surrender my body to be burned but do not have love it profits me nothing.

Most of those look questionable to me, but if even 1 is legit it's a win! And since Rodebaugh has an eye to match his perfect nails, I wouldn't be shocked if all of them came back fully graded :)

Rode, I'm still looking for a DMPL morgan. I bought one....a 1878-s MS64DMPL, but I wasn't happy with it and had to return it. It had the mirror like fields but lacked the cameo effect on lady liberty. I think its the contrast between the fields and the cameo surface of lady liberty (like your coin) that makes a DMPL so eye appealing.

Beautiful coin Doc. What kind of premium do you think that kind of toning would add to the value?

Thanks E, and Darn good question. I don't think it's one of the super star toners you see on feeBay but it should bring 2-5x the value of a bright white example.

............at least I hope :P

Toned coins are ALL over the place. And when selling aim high, that's for sure :)

I've bought toned coins for years off and on, and I only wish I had bought more as they seem to appreciate in value continually as long as they are nicely toned. And TPTB don't seem to want to stop it :)

When/if you sell this, Doc, make sure you put a reserve in there and have patience as STRONG STRONG buyers are out there!

As a final thought to show the strength of toned coins: I recently paid 150 times guide for a couple coins! Which might mean I'm over paying, of course, but I am happy I did :)
