are canadian quarters and dimes (68'-99') worth collecting??

ok the math doesnt add up. between 69' and 99' the quarter weight is 5.05 grams. so it would take roughly 85 coins to get a pound. although they r nickel that would be 21.25 face value. if nickel is about 13 bucks a pound it would really have to go up alot. nickels that r pre 81' seem to do alot better. and pennies pre 96' are about the same in copper value. let me know if my math is wrong here cause i'm about to bring my hard earned quarters back and dimes as well.

Your math is not wrong. I was saving them for about a year before I found this site. I still have the ones that I saved but I stopped adding to it unless they are in great condition. Im keeping them because the gov is melting them and they are going to be rare pretty soon. They allready are difficult to find. Ni will go up and I expect some day not too long from now those pre '99 quarters are going to be worth more than face.

good i'm not losing it. i;m gonna keep a few rolls of each for the same reason you said. they will be abnormal in the next 5-10 years i think if not sooner. have you ever traded your copper or nickel with anyone in the states? i'm trying to get some silver but don't want to give my pennies or nickels away for nothing? trying to figure out the ratio i'd have to get. also i'm curious about shipping them? cost and border problems mostly i guess. anyway i've been sorting for about 8 months now and seemingly doing well but still tryin to learn a bit so any info would be great. thanks, names Owen by the way.

I don't live in Canada, but do have access to a substantial amount of dimes and quarters. Usually twice each year I make a run across the border to cash them in for CDN paper money. Never had a single problem turning in the coin (all rolled, of course). I've found some high quality 1970s dimes and quarters that appear to have been unc when they were thrown in a drawer for 35-40 years. Those I save.

Just a few years ago, I was paying $0.65 US for $1 in CDN change. So much for that deal now with the US buck now in the position of weakness. Check precious metals prices. An ounce of gold or silver costs less in CDN dollar terms now than its US counterpart due to the sagging George Washington. I suspect that'll continue and I sure intend to use those coins to get smaller CDN bills to sock away as an alternative currency. One never knows. Best to be prepared rather than waiting for nickel prices to double from current levels.

Some CA Dimes and Quarters 67 & 68 are supposed to be 50% silver.
So are these dates worth setting aside or not?

Yes. I keep them, but they are rare to come by.

In 1968 some of the 10 cent were made in the USA. Letter A is Philadelphia and C is Ottawa.

Also a 1973 Large bust 25 cent is a $120 plus.

I too considered saving the .999 quarters and dimes, but you are better off selling them for face value and buying .999 nickels with the money. Even if you pay spot for the nickels, you'll still have more nickel weight than if you kept the dimes and quarters.

A is always nickel. BTW the easy to tell if a 1968 is .500 silver is a magnet as you can pick up the .999 nickel one.
