There is so much money and power involved that it seems unlikely that this wouldn't get much traction in the courts.

This is not a landmark lawsuit.

Every day someone creates a nonsense lawsuit and claims they are "taking on the banks" or "taking on the President" or "taking on other big scary entity".

All come to naught other than some publicity for the party starting it and, of course, the tax payers pay even more money to fight this.

I agree. Other than banks not properly crediting customer accounts the the lawsuit is pretty vague. Also I don't believe private individuals have the standing to sue the government or any government official in most cases.

Private citizens or even citizens of another country can and OFTEN DO sue the government. Successfully in many cases.

But THIS SUIT is nothing more than a smoke screen for publicity and CAUSES HARM to all of us.

Just to clarify, the government can claim sovreign Immunity to avoid a lawsuit, however the Federal Tort Claims Act allows for limited power to bring a tort action. Basically before you sue the government you have to argue that you have the right bring suit in the first place. Many suits get thrown out this stage. There was a recent case where the Supreme Court granted the right of a homeowner to bring action against the EPA.

The bottom line is that it far easier to successfully sue a private party than the Government. These plaintiffs would be well-advised to limit their action to the banks. Naming Obama makes it look like a political stunt.
