Rhodium...The other white meat

13% move today to $1400/oz. Interesting. I didn't realize it crashed from $10,000/oz just 4 years ago. Anyone investing/holding this metal?

This is one of the bullion pieces I am aware of made of Rhodium.

When the guy who made these first started he was super slow on delivery and hard to get in touch with. I ordered a few for my nephews and ended up having to get AMEX involved just to get my order completed. It took forever!

Neat bullion pieces, but the market for folks interested in trading them is slim.

I have prospected for Rhodium and other platinum group metals (PGM). I thought I found some about a year ago, but it didn't "pan" out.

I have panned, sluiced and highbanked for gold...want to try dredging for gold....but never hunted for platinum. Sounds interesting...

I have been very interested in Rh for about a year. Keep thinking i ought to buy an ounce just to take a chance on. My LCD lists it on his website spreadsheet up to the minute. Sell price $1435 Buy price $1150. He has spot at $1150 not $1400 though. For the past few weeks spot was $1050 by his website. So, I have only seen $100 increase or 9.5% increase on Friday. This is for Rhodium Bar. I assume he has them in stock or he would'nt list it on his site. He just started listing it in the past month.

I ordered Rhodium from the "Cohen Mint" a couple years ago. They never sent it. They did refund me. Those guys were very weird.

Now my LCS has 1400 on sell and 1200 on buy. Looks like he shrunk his margins and spot price is now 1200.

i cancelled an order with them. sounded too shady for me. send a money order and wait for a month or more? pass.

also the premiums are out of this world. if it does spike to 10,000 again, who will buy it from you? just a few of the things I asked myself before making the leap. (which I have recently decided against doing.) If there were more players in the market it might be worth playing the game.

I'm fairly certain the Cohen Mint is just one guy, and I've heard so many horror stories about ordering from him over the last 5 years that I would never consider supporting anything he puts out. I really wish a more reputable PM company would produce some Rhodium bullion.

Is Kitco reputable?

Kitco also sells one ounce bars of Rhodium now. You need a U.S. address to
take delivery of them though. I guess they don't want to bother bringing them
into Canada because the GST on them is a bit of a pain. (All non-U.S. shipments
are done out of Quebec, they don't ship from their U.S. facility to anywhere
outside the U.S.)

like I said you have to have someone to buy it for 10k. It is not activly traded on the futures market, and most major dealers of pm's will not buy it. Average Joe doesn't have enough swing or market knowledge to throw 10 k to buy it from you in the event of a spike. Auto makers might buy sponge in the event of the supply drying up, but I doubt they would mess with anything less than several hundred ounces.

I like the looks of rhodium on a chart, but in reality there is no market or liquidity.

Sure... but even if you could only get half of spot... wow. I still probably won't do it though.

Current pricing from my LCS is spot 1325 sell 1525 buy 1325

would already be in the black if I would have purchased last week. I know my LCS would buy it back if he is listing it. He must have some type of market for these bars or he wouldnt even list it.

Anyone know enough to say it should continue to rise near term. I am pretty sure it is part of the Platinum Group Metals. With the uncertainty in South Africa, it makes me wonder if Auto Makers are drivig Rh up in anticipation of shortages due to Labor Disputes in S.A.. It is used in sponge form for production of catylitic converters. I remember getting a catilytic converter replaced 8-10 years back and having to pay $1000 for it. Musthave been when Rh was @ $10,000 oz.

Most people don't even know what rhodium is, let alone enough to invest 5000 dollars on one ounce of it. I understand what you are saying, and I have been looking into it quite a bit over the past year or so. The problem is that it is not traded on the comex imho. If they ever decided to start a futures market play on it then watch out. Until then it just makes a pretty chart for me. ;)

rhodium looks nice on paper, and if there were a paper vehicle I'd consider dipping a toe into it, perhaps 10% of my paper PM money. However as a physical investment rhodium is silly, too much spread on buy/sell, too few buyers, noone knows what it is when you show it to them. Probably a good thing is that no thief will ever steal a bottle of rhodium unless you are actually silly enough to put it in a safe or something, otherwise they will pass it up like your canned vegitables...
